WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE WHEN YOU WERE A KID
As a child I was obsessed with nature and the outdoors. I grew up on a remote island that was totally off the grid in a house next to a lake. I spent hours catching frogs, snakes and fish. It was only later that I realiSed that there was an occupation related to such things. So in a way I sort of missed my calling as a naturalist, but when people asked me what I wanted to be as a kid I always said an artist.

FAVOURITE MEDIUMS TO USE
I default to pencil and paper mostly but I love to cut out paper, paint and use pen and ink. I also love to make zines, animations, short films and installations too. It’s hard to pick.

MOST MEMORABLE CREATIVE MOMENT
Probably when I figured out the links between my physical process and my digital process. It took me a while to find a way to combine them. They were very separate for a long time. I couldn’t figure out how to take my skills in the real world and translate that to the digital world. One day a light just went on. Still working on it though.

BEST PIECE OF CREATIVE INDUSTRY ADVICE
Set your life on fire and seek those who fan the flames.

WORST PIECE OF CREATIVE INDUSTRY ADVICE
Try and make it more on trend.

FAVOURITE ILLUSTRATORS
Lots. It’s so hard to pick but I always keep a David Hockney book on my desk.

FAVOURITE PIECE OF WORK TO DATE
So far I like the work that I did for a show called “Salutes”. It was all cut paper but I find it hard to choose from my own work. I see totally different things when I look. I see all the mistakes so I never feel like things are finished. I have a whole stack of scrap paper at my studio that other people think is finished work.

FANTASY BRIEF
Illustrate the music of Motorhead.

WHERE YOU THINK YOU’LL BE IN 20 YEARS TIME
Making preparations for a motorcycle tour around the world with my son.

WHAT YOU THINK YOU MIGHT DO FOR THE VALENTINE ART SHOW?
I’m still researching for the this. It’s a broad subject. Needs detailed examination and exploration. I have a few ideas but so far I’m working from a quote by Charles Bukowski:
“If there are junk yards in hell, love is the dog that guards the gates.”
