From each of our three competitions this year we will have picked three artists to jump aboard the Pretty Litter ship, to set sail with us to new adventurous shores.

Leg one is now complete where last issue we published the work of loads of really brilliant artists and illustrators in issue 5 when we set a live brief to challenge the public of creating unusual seaside post cards. The winners we picked were chosen because their work and style was really original and charming – traits we’re looking for in artists to join our team. The second brief of the year is below!

✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰

Acquire mega status as one of our brilliant team of in-house artists! From every comp this year we will select three entrants to be part of our expanding team of gifted and fresh new Pretty Litter in-house artists. If you win you’ll get the chance to design all kinds of important new merchandise for the Pretty Litter brand, and, as well as promoting you to high heaven, exhibiting your work and products at our events, as well as select shops – we’ll give you commission on any profit made from sales of the products. (Top entries and the winners will also feature in the magazine, out in September, and part 3 of this comp will feature in the final issue of the year.)

BRIEF #02
Theme: ‘All I Want For Christmas, Is…’
By the time the next issue comes back from print it’ll hopefully still be sizzling hot summertime! However, like all things in the publishing world we need to plan way way way in advance, and that means we have to think about Christmas even while we’re floating around daydreaming in the sea. What we might be thinking about while daydreaming is what we want for CHristmas! So, what better way to show off your illustration skills than with a Christmas card, and even gift wrap, illustrating what floats your boat when it comes to Christmas!? Now, this could be presents, it could be food, it could be anything you like. As always, we want you to be as creative as possible.

Print Specifics:
As at least a semi-experienced illustrator or designer you’ll know that any artwork for print needs to be 300 dpi, CMYK, with 3mm of bleed around the edge. AI files are fine (remember to outline any type). High res J-pegs, flattened Tiffs and PSD files are also good. If you’re a fine artist and need help with how to produce files for print – you can email us at CreativeComps@prettylitter.com and we’ll assist you in any way that we can.

Christmas Cards: We’d like 3 different designs, as part of a series, clearly showcasing your design skills and vivid imagination. We’d like the final print files to be A6 landscape (148 x 105 mm) – with a design for the reverse side as well (as it will be folded in half in a tent way). Be as creative and experimental as you like. Although small in dimension, this will be your challenge – to impress us with your skills and creativity, at this scale. This is a special opportunity to expand your horizons and to become part of a great creative team, and this could be the first of many exciting creative projects with us.

Gift Wrap: We’d like you to take your three card designs and translate them into gift wrap. You can be inventive with this, for example it could be one whole detailed picture, or it could be a part taken from your card and repeated as a pattern, it’s totally up to you. The dimensions for the gift wrap are 440 x 310mm, landscape or portrait.
